Noah van de Wetering (1999) is a visual artist living and working in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

In my practice, I reconfigure the structure of visual narratives by exploring means of representation and materialization, critically examining the photograph’s role both as a means of communication and as a physical or chemical process.

My work is predominantly informed by two sources: conceptual art from the 1960s and my Indonesian family’s migration history, as documented in the Dutch state archive. Both sources intersect during the same period in history. In my practice, I reflect on these sources through direct reference and metaphorical usage. By using art practice as a tool for thought and focusing on the idea rather than the outcome, we can critically engage with histories, such as that of my family, and access languages beyond the textual, chronological, and falsely objective language used by state archives.

My work is an ongoing exploration of photography, print, painting, and installation, constantly redefining systems of display and publication.

Together with graphic designer Noa Wassink, I founded the publishing platform Sessssion, which focusses on small edition printed matter and collaborative work methods.
